I'm mesmerised by the micro worlds that surround me. Often when I'm photographing an ancient building, I end up photographing the lichen on the surfaces. What I love about lichen is that it isn't a single organism - it's a symbiosis between algae and fungi. A lichen is a symbol of harmony. Each find mutual benefits from joining together into a composite life form. They are living labyrinths of organisms that have found a common purpose - a metabolic harmony. This lichen is from the Parmelia genus and is commonly found on trees.
